Welcome to Lucketts Bluegrass!

On January 12, 1974, the first bluegrass show was held at the Old Lucketts Schoolhouse, now known as the Lucketts Community Center. Since then, a concert has been held every Saturday night between October and April excepting the few Saturdays during the holiday season. The Lucketts Bluegrass Concert Series series is one of the longest running, continuously scheduled bluegrass series in the world.

Today, the concerts continue much as they were in the early years, except for the identity of the musicians standing on stage. Now, many performers such as Larry Stephenson, Danny Paisley and Ronnie Reno to name just a few, are sons and daughters of the first generation of Lucketts pickers. Top names in bluegrass have always appeared at Lucketts including the likes of Ralph Stanley, Larry Sparks, The Seldom Scene and the Dry Branch Fire Squad, but a good number of the show dates have always been reserved for local and regional bands seeking a recognized venue where they could play before an enthusiastic and knowledgeable audience.

The Old Schoolhouse shows are run by volunteers who make up the non-profit Lucketts Bluegrass Foundation. The bands are paid from the admissions collected at the gate, of which they receive most of the proceeds. Our loyal fans also benefit by seeing first-rate bluegrass at a modest price, and of course, the Foundation benefits by being able to sponsor the shows and keep the tradition going.
